James Edward Quain (22 November 1787 - 26 June 1862) was an English anatomist, embryologist and physiologist, member of the Royal Society of London (1826). Born December 22, 1771 in Oxford, died March 2, 1943, after studying at Harrow, he entered the University of Cambridge, where he received his doctorate at the age of 16 (at 17).
At Cambridge he studied medicine (including anatomy), physics and chemistry. While working in the anatomy room at the university, he received a huge amount of information about the structure of the brain, retina and other organs - for which grateful friends came up with the nickname “King of the Zetas”.
