Langenbeck Uranoplasty

Langenbeck uranoplasty

Langenbeck uranoplasty is a surgical procedure to reconstruct the palate, named after the German surgeon Werner Ruben Karl Langenbeck (1810-1887).

This operation is used for congenital cleft palate (cleft palate, cleft lip). The goal is to close the palate tissue defect to restore speech and eating.

The operation involves cutting off the mucous membrane along the edges of the defect and bringing the palatine processes together to close the cleft. The edges are sewn together with thread, and sometimes flaps are added to fill the defect.

Langenbeck uranoplasty was one of the first successful operations to close the cleft palate. She laid the foundations for modern methods of surgical treatment of this malformation.
