Leydig Zhelez - German anatomist, born on September 23, 1823 in the Thuringian state of Germany, died on March 15, 1911. He studied anatomy and surgery at the universities of Halle and Giessen, where he received the degrees of Doctor of Medicine (1848) and Veterinary Medicine (1854). ). In 1853 he became an assistant in anatomy at the University of Giessen. From 1866 to 1907 Leydig was professor of anatomy and histology in Strasbourg, and also an anatomist in the museums of Munich and Leipzig. His scientific research was aimed at studying the reproductive organs of males, blood vessels, and muscle tissue. He is considered one of the founders of evolutionary anatomy, as he provided the rationale for the use of morphological characters to study vertebrate phylogeny. Leydig's research contributed to the development of the science of the tropophore, medulla oblongata, and spinal cord. He also introduced the concepts of testicle, seminiferous tubules, scrotum, etc. The works of this scientist are very valuable and are a heritage of world science.
