Mediterranean fever

Mediterranean fever is one of the most terrible infectious diseases affecting humans. The source of the disease is the carrier - a rodent or sheep. The clinical manifestations of this disease may resemble simpler diseases, which leads to diagnostic errors. Treatment is based on both antibiotics and immunotherapy. The causative agent of this disease is Brucella melitensis, which is excreted in the feces and urine of the carrier for about 6 months. The main methods of infection are contact with soil and animal waste products in endemic areas. The diagnosis is made if antibody titers in the blood serum exceed a certain level. Currently, there are 2 types of such microorganisms: stationary and gallovacting. The latter type is highly virulent. Other animals do not usually suffer from this disease.
