Lipantil

Lipantil: an effective remedy for lowering blood cholesterol levels

Lipantil (international name - fenofibrate) is a representative of the group of lipid-lowering drugs - fibrates. It is produced by several companies, including Gedeon Richter A.O. (Hungary), Laboratoire Fournier (France) and Leclerc & Co (Switzerland). Lipantil is used to lower levels of fatty substances (lipids) in the blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides.

Lipantil is marketed in the form of capsules dosed in 100 mg and 200 mg fenofibrate. It may be prescribed by a doctor to treat hyperlipidemia, which is characterized by elevated levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Lipantil is indicated for the treatment of hyperlipidemia types IIa, IV and V, as well as types IIb and III with insufficient effectiveness of diet and the presence of associated risk factors, such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and hypertension (HD) and their complications.

Before taking Lipantil, you must consider contraindications. This includes hypersensitivity to fenofibrate, as well as impaired liver function (including biliary cirrhosis), calculous cholecystitis, severe renal failure, alcoholism, pregnancy and lactation.

Like any medicine, Lipantil may cause side effects. Some of them include cholelithiasis, increased transaminase and creatine kinase levels, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia, myositis, rhabdomyolysis, acute renal failure, dizziness, headache, fatigue, impotence and skin rashes. Before you start taking Lipantil, you should discuss the possible risks and side effects with your doctor.

Lipantil may also interact with other medicines. For example, it may increase the activity of indirect anticoagulants and enhance the hepatotoxicity of perhexiline and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Oral contraceptives may reduce the lipid-lowering effect of Lipantil.

In case of overdose with Lipantil there is no data. However, if the recommended dose is exceeded, side effects may occur.

Lipantil should be taken for a long time in combination with a hypocholesterol diet and under medical supervision. The dosage and regimen should be determined individually depending on the level of lipids in the blood and the presence of associated risk factors.

In general, Lipantil is an effective and safe means for lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. However, like any other medicine, its use must be agreed with a doctor and based on an individual assessment of the patient.
