Lipemia Pathological

Pathological lipemia is a pathological condition characterized by an increased content of lipids (fats) in the blood.

The causes of pathological lipemia may be:

  1. Lipid metabolism disorders in diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypothyroidism and other diseases

  2. Liver diseases, including fatty liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis

  3. Pancreatic diseases

  4. Poor nutrition with excess consumption of fats and carbohydrates

  5. Taking certain medications

  6. Genetic predisposition

With lipemia, the level of triglycerides, cholesterol, low and very low density lipoproteins in the blood increases.

Clinically, lipemia is manifested by the appearance of turbid, milky-white blood plasma. A characteristic sign is a positive test for lipemia.

Lipemia can be complicated by the development of atherosclerosis, pancreatitis, and xanthomas.

Treatment of lipemia is aimed at eliminating the causes of lipid metabolism disorders. Diet therapy, drug correction, and, if necessary, extracorporeal methods are carried out.
