Lipomatosis Diffuse-Nodular

Diffuse nodular lipomatosis is a rare disease characterized by the appearance of multiple lipomas in the subcutaneous tissue.

Causes

The exact causes of the development of diffuse nodular lipomatosis are unknown. It is assumed that the basis of the disease is a violation of lipid metabolism and differentiation of adipose tissue. The role of heredity is also discussed.

Symptoms

The main manifestation of diffuse nodular lipomatosis is the appearance of multiple painless nodes in the subcutaneous tissue, resembling lipomas. The nodes can be of different sizes - from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter. The limbs, torso, and neck are most often affected. The number of nodes can vary from several to hundreds.

Diagnostics

The diagnosis is established on the basis of the clinical picture and data from imaging studies (ultrasound, MRI, CT), which make it possible to detect multiple nodes of adipose tissue. A biopsy may be required to rule out malignancy.

Treatment

There is currently no radical treatment for diffuse nodular lipomatosis. Symptomatic therapy is carried out - surgical removal of the most cosmetically significant nodes. The prognosis is generally favorable.
