Amiton: description of the drug, its properties and features

Amiton (amitriptyline) is a drug that belongs to the group of non-selective neuronal uptake inhibitors and is used to treat various mental disorders and pain syndromes.

Amiton is manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals from India. This drug is one of the most well-known and frequently used antidepressants.

The main active ingredient of Amiton - amitriptyline - affects monoaminergic systems in the brain, increasing the concentration of norepinephrine and serotonin in synaptic clefts. This leads to a reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as an analgesic effect.

Amiton is available in the dosage form of 25 mg tablets. The drug is taken orally in a dose that is set individually for each patient depending on the severity of the disease and tolerability of the drug.

Indications for the use of Amiton include the treatment of depression, depressive syndrome, schizophrenic psychoses, anxiety-depressive conditions of various origins, mixed emotional disorders, behavioral disorders, psychogenic anorexia, nocturnal enuresis (as an auxiliary treatment), as well as severe pain of a neurogenic nature.

Contraindications to the use of Amiton include hypersensitivity to the active substance and other components of the drug, glaucoma, epilepsy, prostatic hyperplasia, bladder atony, paralytic ileus, history of myocardial infarction, use of MAO inhibitors in the previous 2 weeks, pregnancy, lactation, childhood (up to 6 years old).

Amiton can cause side effects such as blockade of peripheral M-cholinergic receptors, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, blurred vision and accommodation, increased sweating, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, increased blood pressure, cardiac conduction disturbances, drowsiness, dizziness, tremor, allergic reactions (skin rash and others).

Amiton interacts with MAO inhibitors, and can also enhance the effect of compounds that depress the central nervous system, sympathomimetics, antiparkinsonian drugs, anticholinergic drugs, alcohol and other sedatives.

Before starting to use Amiton, you must consult your doctor and inform about all existing diseases and medications you are taking. The drug should be taken strictly as prescribed by the doctor and in the indicated dose, without exceeding the recommended duration of treatment.
