Lobe of the Azygos Vein

Distribution and base of azygos veins Azygos veins are branches of the brachiocephalic vein and veins of the lower end of the arm, located in the intercostal space. They are located above the left subclavian and between the two layers of the shoulder girdle. They are divided into two groups: lateral and medial. The first group includes all unpaired ones located above the angle of inclination of the shoulder blades. To the second - the lower and outermost branches, located below the angle formed by the scapula with the spine. Below the level of the angle of the scapula, the main trunk branch emerges from the tissues of the neck, where the lateral canal is located.

The importance of the azygos artery V. azygos, v. hemiazygos, V. intercostales are located at the base of the heart. It carries a large amount of venous blood from the neck to the ascending aorta. An increased level of carbon dioxide in the blood leads to increased growth of the large azygos vein. Its strong development is facilitated by the blood supplied to the heart by the spleen, pancreas, thymus, gall bladder and kidneys. Dilatation of this vein as a result of increased heart tension can lead to cardiac asthma. As the size increases, the trachea and esophagus are compressed. The consequence of this can be purulent diseases of the respiratory tract and esophagus. Thrombosis of this vein is also dangerous to health.
