Loperamide hydrochloride "LH": antidiarrheal agent
Loperamide hydrochloride "LH" is an antidiarrheal agent produced by the Ukrainian company Lekhim-Kharkov. It is used for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, as well as for ileostomy to reduce the frequency and volume of stools, as well as to add firmness to the consistency of stools.
Loperamide, also known by its international name "Loperamide", is available in the form of tablets containing 2 mg of active substance. It is an effective remedy for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea.
The drug has several synonyms, including Vero-Loperamide, Diarol, Imodium, Lopedium, Lopedium ISO, Loperamide, Loperamide-Ratiopharm, Loperamide-Acri, Loperamide-Rivo, Loperamide-Rivopharm, Loperamide hydrochloride, Neo-enteroseptol, Superilop and Enterobene.
Some side effects may occur with loperamide, including drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and rarely, constipation or bloating.
There are no known interactions between loperamide and other medications, but it is always recommended to consult your doctor or pharmacist before using multiple medications at the same time.
In case of an overdose of loperamide, symptoms of central nervous system depression may occur, such as stupor, incoordination, drowsiness, miosis (constriction of the pupils), muscle hypertension and respiratory depression, and possible intestinal obstruction. In case of overdose, naloxone is used as an antidote.
Particular care should be taken when using loperamide in children, especially when treating diarrhea. In such cases, it is important to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. If acute diarrhea does not improve clinically within 48 hours, or symptoms such as constipation, bloating, or partial intestinal obstruction occur, stop taking loperamide. Patients with liver dysfunction should be carefully monitored for signs of central nervous system toxicity.
If you experience weakness, fatigue, drowsiness or dizziness, it is not recommended to drive a car or operate equipment that requires increased concentration.
It is important to follow the dosage recommendations specified in the instructions for the drug or as prescribed by your doctor. It is not recommended to exceed the recommended dose without consulting your doctor.
