Loritmic 80: Description and use of beta blocker from Slovakia

Loritmic 80 is a pharmacological drug belonging to the group of beta-blockers, and is produced in Slovakia by the pharmaceutical company Krka. The main active ingredient of the drug is sotalol. Loritmic 80 is available in tablet form and is used to treat various cardiovascular diseases.

The main indications for the use of Loritmic 80 include ventricular arrhythmias, such as fibrillation and refractory forms, tachycardias (both constant and paroxysmal), as well as AV reciprocal tachycardias in the presence of abnormalities of the cardiac conduction system, such as WPW syndrome and AV node dissociation. The drug is also used for the treatment and prevention of supraventricular arrhythmias, tachycardia in thyrotoxicosis, angina pectoris (especially in combination with tachyarrhythmias), arterial hypertension, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse and for the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction in stable patient condition.

However, there are several contraindications to the use of Loritmic 80. This includes hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, stage IV heart failure according to the NYHA classification (National Heart Association of New York), AV block II-III degree, sinoatrial block, sick sinus syndrome, cardiogenic shock, severe arterial hypotension, prolongation of the QT interval, sinus bradycardia (less than 50 beats per minute), severe peripheral circulatory disorders, laryngeal edema and severe allergic rhinitis. There are also restrictions on the use of the drug in the presence of broncho-obstructive syndrome (chronic bronchitis, emphysema), psoriasis, diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, pheochromocytoma, renal failure, metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, old age, history of myocardial infarction, aggravated allergic history, pregnancy and breastfeeding. When using the drug during pregnancy, the expected positive effect should exceed the potential risk to the fetus, and breastfeeding should be stopped during treatment with Loritmic 80.

Loritmic 80 should be taken as prescribed by a doctor and in accordance with the instructions for the drug. The usual recommended dose for adult patients is 1 tablet (80 mg sotalol) twice daily. The dosage may be adjusted depending on the individual patient and disease characteristics. The drug is taken orally, regardless of food intake, and washed down with a sufficient amount of water.

Some side effects may occur when using Loritmic 80. The most common ones include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, increased triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood, baldness, dry eyes and visual disturbances. A decrease in blood pressure, bradycardia, fainting, bronchospasm, increased symptoms of recurrent therapeutic psoriasis, decreased sexual desire and erectile dysfunction may also be observed. It is important to take Loritmic 80 regularly and not stop treatment without first consulting your doctor. Sudden discontinuation of the drug may lead to an exacerbation of cardiovascular symptoms.
