Lung resection Segmental

Resection (segmental) of the lung (pulmonary segmentectomy) - removal of a lobe or several segments of an organ along with the surrounding lung tissue. As a rule, it is performed in the scope of a lobectomy, when a segment is removed from one side of the lungs when the pathology is located on the right side, and bilobectomy when the lobes are affected on the left.

The indication for surgery for tumors is the lack of effect of radiation therapy. Multiple and recurrent metastases are an indication for removal of the entire lung. Segmentectomy is more often performed for tuberculosis, abscess or atelectasis with a large proportion of bronchial occlusion. After diagnosis of pneumonia, segmental pulmonary surgery is not performed. In such cases, treatment with antibiotics or other conservative therapy is usually prescribed.
