Megalomastia

Megalomastia is a phenomenon where a person has abnormally large breast glands. This diagnosis is associated with hormonal imbalances, which can lead to serious health consequences.

The causes of megalomastia can be different. Most often it develops due to hormonal disorders that cause an increase in estrogen and progesterone levels. These hormones are associated with breast growth and can affect their size. For example, hyperestrogenism (increased estrogen levels) can lead to the development of megalomastia. Also, the development of this disease may be associated with endocrine diseases such as Cushing's syndrome or pituitary tumors.

Symptoms of megalomastia include large breast size, which may become larger and heavier over time. The mammary glands may produce milk or discharge. In addition, chest or back pain may occur due to the large weight of the breast. Sometimes megalomastia can cause discomfort or even discomfort in the heart area.

Treatment for megalomastia depends on its cause. In some cases, surgery may be required to remove the breasts or reduce their size. If the cause is nonsurgical, your doctor may prescribe medications to reduce hormone levels or other treatments. It is important to see a doctor at the first signs of megalomastia so that treatment can begin as early as possible.

Megalomastia is certainly a rare disease. However, given its symptoms, the need for surgery and the impact on the patient's quality of life, it should not go unnoticed. Doctors must be attentive to this disease and help patients cope with it.
