Meningitis Blastomycosis

Blastomycosis, also known as “blastomycete meningitis,” is a serious disease that can lead to serious consequences for the health and even life of the patient. It is a fungal disease caused by the parasitic fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. This fungus lives in moist environments, such as forest floors or soil. Symptoms of blastomycosis may include fever, headache, fatigue, weakness and cough. One way to transmit this infection is by inhaling fungal spores from the air. Transmission through the skin through direct contact with contaminated soil or plants is also possible. In addition, people can become infected with blastomyces by eating food containing fungal spores. Most people in areas with high humidity levels should pay special attention to the prevention of blastomycetes and other fungal diseases.

Treatment of blastominosis is carried out with antifungal drugs. It does not destroy most fungi, but only affects certain groups of them. Therapy begins in the second week of illness, and until this point anti-fever medications, a course of antibiotics, and antihistamines are prescribed.
