**Meningitis** is an inflammation of the meninges with a characteristic symptom of intoxication and general cerebral symptoms, which is caused by both the development of an infectious process in the meninges and the resulting changes in intracranial pressure. Meningitis is almost always secondary to many infectious diseases.
