Myelitis Compression

Compression myelitis is a disease that occurs due to circulatory problems in the spinal cord caused by compression or pinching of nerve fibers. Characterized by back pain, numbness and loss of sensitivity below the lesion. Often accompanied by impaired motor function and paralysis.

Myelitis can be caused by various reasons, for example, spinal injury, cerebrovascular accident, infectious diseases, tumors and other factors. The most common symptoms are back pain, weakness of the leg and pelvic muscles, poor balance and coordination, loss of sensation and numbness in the limbs.

Treatment for compression myelitis depends on the cause of the disease and its severity. First of all, the doctor must determine the cause and extent of damage to the spinal cord. If a tumor is suspected, an MRI scan, radiography or biopsy is performed. Treatment begins with pain medications and analgesics, as well as steroid injections directly into the lesion.

Surgery may be used to remove a tumor or other types of abnormalities. Physiotherapy, massage, exercises to restore motor functions, and methods of mental and social rehabilitation can also be used.

In general, compression myelitis can be managed, but it requires timely and high-quality treatment under the supervision of a physician.
