Monosporiosis

Monosporiosis (monosporiosis; synonym allescheriosis) is a fungal disease of birds caused by the fungus Monosporium apiospermum. This fungus attacks the air sacs, lungs and internal organs of birds. The disease is characterized by respiratory disorders, exhaustion and death of birds.

Monosporiasis most often occurs in chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, quails and other poultry. Infection occurs aerogenously through the respiratory tract. Microscopy reveals single-celled, oval, yellow-brown fungal spores in sputum and exudate.

To prevent monosporiosis, veterinary and sanitary measures are carried out aimed at eliminating factors contributing to the infection of birds. When a diagnosis is made, antifungal drugs are prescribed.
