Longissimus Muscle of the Head

longissimus capitis muscle - (m. longissimus capitis, pna, bna, jna)

This is one of the deep muscles of the back. It starts from the spinous processes of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, as well as from the spinous processes of the sacrum. The muscle passes upward and attaches to the occipital bone of the skull.

The longissimus capitis muscle is involved in the movements of the head, extending it and tilting it in its direction. It also stabilizes the spine during movements of the torso and limbs.
