Nerv Vidyev

The vidian nerve (lat. n. vidii) is a peripheral cranial nerve that innervates the muscles of the eyeball and is involved in the visual act.

The vidian nerve originates from the midbrain, passes through the orbit and reaches the eye muscles, where it splits into branches that innervate the external, internal, superior and inferior rectus muscles of the eyeball. The vidian nerve also innervates the upper eyelid.

The functions of the vidian nerve are the contraction of the eye muscles, which ensures the movements of the eyeball, as well as participation in the visual act - the transmission of impulses from the retina to the visual centers of the brain.

Damage to the vidian nerve leads to impaired eye mobility and double vision.
