Odeston is a drug from the group of choleretic agents that has a weak anti-inflammatory effect. It is widely used in the treatment of diseases of the gallbladder and biliary system.

The active ingredient is hymecromont. The effect of the drug begins 2 hours after ingestion. Used as a symptomatic treatment of colic in the gallbladder, cholecystitis, incl. combined with stones, gall bladder reflux and gallbladder spasm. Effective for improving functional indicators before and after cholecystectomy; can be used for biliary dyskinesia and other non-toxicosis of the gastrointestinal tract in which increased secretion is achieved without a simultaneous increase in bile formation.

Contraindications: hypersensitivity, liver failure, stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, bleeding disorders, pregnancy. Side effects: diarrhea, deterioration of the patient's condition, nausea and vomiting, urticaria and other allergic reactions, increased bilirubin, decreased levels of albumin and prothrombin index in the blood plasma.

Odeston can be combined with other medications such as antacids, antibiotics and painkillers. It is important to avoid simultaneous use with enzyme inducers. An overdose can cause an increase in the amount of substances that the body uses for metabolism, which can lead to impaired kidney and liver function.
