An island is a piece of land surrounded on all sides by water and constantly rising above the water even at full tide. A characteristic feature of the islands is the presence of fresh water on their territory (lakes or rivers), unlike many land areas of the globe that have a constant water supply from the sea. Islands and peninsulas are often important and remote parts of specific
