Ovarian rupture

An ovarian rupture is a tear in the ovarian tissue. This is a dangerous condition that requires urgent medical attention.

The reasons for ovarian rupture can be different. This most often occurs due to trauma to the abdomen, such as a fall or blow. Also reasons may be:

  1. Ovarian cysts or tumors that grow in size and eventually rupture the ovarian lining.

  2. Intense physical activity, especially among athletes.

  3. Endometriosis, when endometrial tissue spreads outside the uterus and can affect the ovaries.

  4. Hormonal disorders.

Symptoms of ovarian rupture:

  1. Severe, sudden pain in the lower abdomen that gets worse over time.

  2. Bleeding into the abdominal cavity, which can manifest as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

  3. Tension and enlargement of the abdomen due to accumulation of blood.

  4. Drop in blood pressure, increased heart rate.

Diagnosis is based on the clinical picture, as well as ultrasound or CT to detect blood in the abdominal cavity.

Treatment consists of urgent surgery - removal of the ruptured ovary or part of it. Sometimes a blood transfusion is required. With timely treatment, the prognosis is favorable. Complications may include shock and peritonitis.

Thus, ovarian rupture is a dangerous condition that requires immediate medical attention for emergency assistance. With prompt diagnosis and surgical treatment, it is possible to prevent serious complications and preserve reproductive function.
