Oxacillin Sodium

Oxacillin (sodium salt) is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic, a derivative of naphthol. The most important representative of long-acting sodium salts of penicillins. Currently, Oxacillin belongs to the category of reserve antibiotics and is used when the patient is sensitive to it, or in the form of combination therapy with penicillin drugs. Has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action, active against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria; used to treat diseases of bacterial etiology in the absence or resistance to penicillin, and also as a prophylactic agent in surgery. Oxacillin is a natural antibiotic, but it requires significant amounts of water on its way through the cells, so activity is reduced in patients with impaired water-electrolyte balance, impaired liver and pancreas function. Due to its high solubility in water, parenteral administration of the drug for severe infections is possible - as an addition to intramuscular administration. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys, the half-life lasts up to 5 hours. The maximum effect is observed by the end of the first week of therapy. With long-term use during therapy, the appearance of fungal infections and bone marrow suppression is allowed. Synonyms: Sodium salt of oxacillic acid. Release form: capsules 250 mg.
