Palilalia

Palilalia is involuntary excessive or repeated speech. It is believed that this disorder is primarily symptomatic in schizophrenia; it arose due to a disruption in the transmission of information between the cerebral cortex and its subcortical structures. Nowadays, palilalia usually refers to involuntary speech that is repeated many times as such without any semantic meaning. It was described at the end of the 19th century by a Dutch psychiatrist. However, only much later did doctors become convinced that palilalia was not an accidental disease, but a rather serious disease.
