Nose fracture

The upper part of the nose is bone, and the lower part is cartilage, and with this cartilage it is not a fracture that occurs, but crushing or simplifying expansion or curvature to the side. As for the bony upper part, it is sometimes affected by a fracture. When the nose breaks and is not treated, it leads to loss of smell. Sometimes the bone hardens and the nose remains crooked, unable to be straightened, so it should be treated as soon as possible, on the first day, and not put it off beyond the tenth day.

Know that when a fracture of the nose reaches the bridge of the nose or occurs here, the most appropriate method of treatment is to take a straight, smooth needle and carefully insert it into the nose, to the farthest end of the nasal passages, then hold the nose with one hand and straighten it with the other until it is straightened, and then they try to insert a tampon that would preserve the straight shape of the nose, preferably linen. Caution requires that the tampon be inserted into both nostrils at once, even if the damage is only on one side, sometimes the stem of a feather is inserted into the tampon to make it better. Then apply a medicated bandage and stick the cloth of the bandage to your nose, do not remove the tampon until it fulfills its purpose of strengthening and healing the bones. Do not put a bandage over the nose, because it flattens it, unless, of course, there is a large curvature or protrusion that can be corrected by bending it in the other direction.

If the damage occurs in the lower parts of the nose, then it can be straightened with two fingers of both hands, for example, with the index or little fingers. If in this condition a tumor forms, then the diahilun patch helps very well; it calms the swelling, and also maintains and strengthens the nose in a straight position.

Medicine prepared with vinegar, olive oil, white bread and crushed incense also works. It is sprinkled with ash and made into a medicinal bandage.

When a fracture is accompanied by crushing and crumbling, the nose can return to a healthy state only after it is cut, the crushed bones are removed, sewn up and sprinkled with powders.

If there is a deviation and displacement of the cartilage, then straighten it by force and tie it with a bandage that holds it in this position, while the bandage is tied to the side of the neck from which the nose deviates. One of the ways to facilitate and improve such a dressing is to take a strong braid that borders the clothing, or a belt about the width of a finger, and smear one end of it with fish glue, or glue from cow skins, or gum, or other sticky substances, and stick it to the tip of the nose with that side from which the nose has deviated so that the end of the strap dries and forcibly returns the nose to the correct position. Then you pull the belt or rag until you straighten the nose, and tilt it in the direction opposite to the one in which it first deviated; you bring its ends to the neck and tie it so that it holds the nose in this position, and make a suitable medicinal bandage.
