Transfer the Item with Tongs

The child’s motor activity develops quite quickly. As your baby develops motor coordination, he will increasingly feel the need for activities in which he can use it, and he is always happy to demonstrate this to you. If your baby is already quite dexterous, he will enjoy playing with tongs.

Lay out several boxes (or plates) in the kitchen, place one on the table, another on the floor, the third on a chair, etc. In each of them, except one, place some small hard object (for example, a cube, a battery, a plastic or a rubber toy, an empty spool). Give your child the tongs and explain that the goal of the game is to use them to move all the objects into the empty box. See if he can do this without dropping anything.

The more often the baby plays, the better he will do. Then complicate the task: put smaller objects in the boxes - replace the cube with a piece of sugar, the toy with a ring, etc. You can also increase the distance between the boxes. Set the kitchen timer to see which of you two can complete a task faster, or try doing it with the rest of your family.

Helpful advice:

The degree of difficulty of the game depends on the type of tongs. It is easier to carry objects with ice tongs with spoons at the ends than with ordinary kitchen tongs that have flat ends. Roast tongs with a wide base make playing even easier. Let your child start with the simplest exercises and move on to more complex tasks as they gain skills.
