Perineum

The perineum (Perineum) is a muscular-fascial plate that closes the exit from the pelvic cavity; located between the apex of the coccyx (back), the lower point of the pubic symphysis (front) and the ischial tuberosities (on the sides). In men, the urethra and rectum pass through the perineum; in women, in addition, the vagina (ed.). Perineal - relating to the perineum.

The perineum performs an important supporting function, supporting the pelvic organs. It consists of muscles and fascia that form the musculofascial complex. Damage to the perineum can lead to pelvic organ prolapse and urinary and fecal incontinence. Therefore, during childbirth, it is important to avoid ruptures of the perineum, and, if necessary, carry out their careful restoration. Taking care of the perineum is necessary to maintain the health of the pelvic organs.

The perineum is a muscular-fascial complex that closes the exit from the pelvis. It is located between the coccyx, pubic symphysis and ischial bones. In men, the urethra and rectum pass through it. Women, in addition to this, also have a vagina.

The perineal region is the area of the perineum, which includes muscles, fascia, ligaments and other structures responsible for maintaining the normal functioning of the pelvic and perineal organs. It is also an important site for surgical procedures such as rectal, bladder and prostate surgery.

Perineum (Latin perines, Greek περινεῦς “external” + suffix −αλ- meaning “about”); also perineum, interim, interslit - the anterior section of the pelvic cavity, lying between the pubic symphysis (pubic arch) at the back and the seat in front.

In men, the urethra lies through the perineal area; in front of it, in the spongy layer, is the bulb of the penis, and below, in the infrapiriform space (in children under 1 year old) is the underdeveloped scrotum. In men, the prostate gland also leads here (at older ages it remains in the form of a relatively large rudiment); as a rule, their testicles are located in the scrotum, but during an erection they can be pulled towards the body and penetrate it several centimeters; in a supine position, the male genital organs are subject to strong gravity.
