Periosteal Massage

Periosteal massage

Many years of research by specialists have shown that many diseases of human internal organs are accompanied by changes in bone tissue. To restore it, a so-called periosteal massage should be performed.

Periosteal massage is a type of massage that has an effect on altered painful points that have a reflex connection with various human organs. It is recommended for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, joints, skeletal system and some internal organs. This type of massage has a beneficial effect on blood and lymph circulation, metabolic and trophic processes. This happens because when pressing on pain points, highly sensitive interoreceptors of the periosteum, as well as the walls of extraosseous venous vessels, are irritated.

When conducting a periosteal massage session, it is necessary to take into account the topography of the nerves and the Zakharyin-Ged zone.

Periosteal massage should be done in those pain points where the painful sensations were localized. In this case, it is necessary to take into account how severe the patient’s pain is. If the pain is very severe, the procedure must begin with exposure to the areas surrounding the painful point and gradually approach its source. If the procedure is performed on the patient’s chest, it is necessary to observe the breathing rhythm.

During the massage, you should influence the skull, the spinous processes of the vertebrae, and the exit points of the nerve trunks. The middle sacral crest, patella and clavicle are not affected.

When treating diseases associated with changes in the joints and muscles of the arms and legs, it is recommended to act on various areas.

  1. During the procedure in the area of the shoulder and shoulder joint, you need to press on the spine of the scapula, on the acromion of the clavicle and on the external and internal condyles of the shoulder.

  2. During the procedure in the area of the knee joint and lower leg, pressure should be applied to the sacrum, pubic symphysis, greater trochanter of the femur and the crest of the tibia.

When treating osteochondrosis, deforming spondylosis and other diseases of the spine, the areas of the sacrum, ischium, ribs, scapula, sternum, pubic symphysis of the spinous processes of the vertebrae should be massaged.

Contraindications for periosteal massage: osteoporosis, bone tuberculosis.

Periosteal massage technique:

When carrying out the procedure, one or more fingers should rhythmically press on the periosteal point, located near the course of the nerve trunks, or on the periosteal point of the periosteum. Press on this point once a second, without lifting your fingers from the massaged area.

The duration of massaging one point is usually from 1 to 3 minutes.

Periosteal massage can be performed as independent procedures or in combination with other treatment methods. Periosteal massage should be performed 2-3 times a week.
