Peripleuritis

Peripleuritis is an inflammation of the pleura lining the lungs and chest. The pleura consists of two layers - visceral, covering the lungs, and parietal, lining the inner surface of the chest.

The causes of peripleuritis can be infections (bacterial, viral, fungal), injuries, tumors, autoimmune diseases. Symptoms include chest pain that gets worse with breathing and coughing, fever, chills, and general malaise.

The diagnosis is made on the basis of anamnesis, clinical picture, results of laboratory and instrumental research methods (radiography, CT, blood tests).

Treatment of peripleuritis depends on the cause of its occurrence. Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and drainage of the pleural cavity are used. Rest, pain relief, and adequate drinking are important. With timely treatment, the prognosis is favorable.
