Pyelotomy

Pyelotomy is a surgical operation that is performed to cut the renal pelvis and allows you to remove a stone from this area or drain the pelvis. This procedure is usually performed when there are kidney stones that cannot be removed by other methods.

Pyelotomy is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 40-60 minutes. Depending on the reason for the surgery, the surgeon may use different techniques to perform the surgery. For example, if the stone is in the pelvis, the surgeon may make an incision in the pelvis area to remove the stone. If the pelvis is filled with pus or blood, the surgeon may use a special catheter to drain the area.

After surgery, the patient must stay in the hospital for several days to monitor the condition and monitor the healing process. After leaving the hospital, the patient should follow the doctor's recommendations for wound care and take medications to prevent infection.

In general, pyelotomy is an effective method for treating kidney stones and draining the renal pelvis. However, like any other surgical operation, it may have its own risks and complications, so before undergoing the operation it is necessary to carefully assess all possible risks and choose the most suitable treatment method.

What is pyelostomy and why is it needed?

*Pyelostomy is a surgical procedure in which a drainage tube is inserted into the bladder. As a result, the urinary system gets rid of the constant presence of a foreign object. In some cases, urine is released on its own.*

Pyelotomy is done because of stones. When the kidneys cannot remove a calculus with a diameter of more than 5 mm from its pelvic space, there is a danger of an inflammatory process in the area of the collecting system. Then the patient is offered surgical intervention, that is, pyelotomy. The consequences of lack of treatment can be very different - inflammation of the kidney tissue, purulent damage to the pelvis, vascular aneurysm and others.

When a stone may cause kidney problems, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately. The doctor will assess the patient's condition, conduct the necessary tests and determine whether the patient needs a pyelotomy intervention. Surgical treatment of pyelonephritis is carried out in most cases before other procedures aimed at dissolving the stone.
