Tuberculous pyonephrosis or an infectious-inflammatory process affecting the lower part of the kidney. This is one of the complications of lobar tuberculosis of the kidneys. In most cases, it is associated with the spread of infection from the liver or intestines in the peritoneal form of tuberculosis. Also, the cause of the disease may be a hematogenous or lymphogenous route of spread of infection.
The occurrence of an infection in the kidney is accompanied by an inflammatory reaction, which leads to the development of an abscess and hemorrhage inside the kidney and perinephric tissue. Gradually, purulent-destructive processes cover the kidney tissue and can lead to loss of kidney function. The course of the disease is long and often accompanied by relapses. Treatment is conservative, and relapse is usually an indication for surgery to remove the affected kidney.
