"PLATYBASIA" is a type of deviation from the plane of the body.
This is a condition in which most of the leg is placed not down, but to the side, outward from the normal supporting surface. Because of this, the dog's forelimbs are higher when moving than the hind limbs, which makes it difficult to support and creates a serious imbalanced load on the spine.
In contrast to the extreme forms of complicated static and dynamic disorders of the forelimbs - overstepping, in dogs with platybasia the hind limbs are normally not affected and retain the ability to support. However, the load on the limbs is significantly distributed, which is also undesirable.
Excessive load on the forelimbs when deviated, even with a paw, has serious consequences for the future health of the animal, contributing to the development of diseases of the spine, blood vessels and heart, paranasal sinuses, and oncological problems. When Platybasia is eliminated, recovery often takes a long period of time.
