Bud Wrinkled

Wrinkled kidney (lat. ren contractus) is a pathological condition of the kidney, characterized by a decrease in its size and weight.

A wrinkled kidney is formed as a result of a long course of chronic kidney diseases, such as chronic pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis and others. In this case, the functioning kidney parenchyma is replaced by connective tissue.

Clinically, a shriveled kidney is manifested by a decrease in the size of the organ, detected by palpation or visualization. There is also a decrease in renal functions - glomerular filtration and excretory capacity.

Diagnosis of a wrinkled kidney is based on anamnesis, clinical picture, laboratory and instrumental examination methods.

Treatment is aimed at slowing the progression of chronic kidney disease and correcting functional disorders. The prognosis for a shriveled kidney is usually unfavorable.
