Preobrazhensky eardrum massage is a treatment method that was developed by Soviet otolaryngologist Sergei Sergeevich Preobrazhensky in 1891. This method is still widely used in modern medicine and is one of the most effective ways to treat chronic ear, nose and throat diseases.
Preobrazhensky discovered that patients with chronic ear, nose, and throat disease often experienced severe pain sensitivity in the area of the eardrum. He suggested that the reason for this could be a decrease in the tone of the muscles that are located around the eardrum, and suggested using special exercises to strengthen them.
He began his experiments with people suffering from chronic rhinitis, a disease in which the nasal mucosa becomes swollen and makes breathing very difficult. Preobrazhensky performed a procedure called “eardrum massage” to help patients improve their condition.
The first step in the procedure was to apply a special oil to the eardrum, which made it easier to glide. The doctor then used a special device to create pressure on the membrane, which caused the patient extreme pain. This procedure was repeated several times a day until the patient's condition improved.
