Proconazole

Procanazole: an effective antifungal agent

Procanazole (international name - fluconazole) is an antifungal drug belonging to the pharmacological group of imidazole and triazole derivatives. This drug is manufactured in India by Protech Biosystems Pvt and is widely used for the treatment of various fungal infections, as well as for the prevention of such infections in patients with malignant neoplasms.

Procanazole is available on the market in several dosage forms, including capsules with a dosage of 150 mg and 50 mg, as well as an infusion solution with a concentration of 2 mg/ml. The active substance in the drug is fluconazole.

This medicine is effective against various types of fungi, and its use is recommended in the following cases: candidiasis (vaginal, mucous membranes, generalized), cryptococcosis, skin mycoses, deep endemic mycoses. Procanazole can also be used to prevent fungal infections in patients with malignant tumors.

However, there are some contraindications to the use of procanazole. This drug is not recommended if you are hypersensitive to its components, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If treatment with procanazole is necessary, breastfeeding should be suspended.

Some side effects may occur when using procanazole, including nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, liver damage, headache, alopecia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia (in immunocompromised individuals), and skin rash. If the patient develops a rash or bullous changes, or erythema multiforme, procanazole therapy should be discontinued immediately.

It is necessary to consider the possibility of interaction of procanazole with other drugs. Procanazole can enhance the effect of oral hypoglycemic drugs, coumarin anticoagulants, and also affect the excretion of cyclosporine and rifampicin in the urine. Hydrochlorothiazide can increase the concentration of procanazole in the blood by 40%. In addition, simultaneous use of procanazole with cisapride and zidovudine can lead to the development of paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia.

There is no reliable data regarding an overdose of procanazole, therefore, if overdose symptoms are suspected, it is recommended to immediately contact a medical professional or seek emergency medical help.

It is important to note that the information provided above is based on my knowledge prior to September 2021. It is recommended to consult a medical specialist or pharmacist for more up-to-date information about procanazole, its use, side effects, contraindications and interactions with other drugs.
