What is Trichomoniasis?
Trichomoniasis is an infectious disease caused by protozoa of the genus Trichomonas vaginalis or Trichomonas tenax. The most common is vaginal trichomoniasis, which is caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and subsequently affects the mucous membranes of the genitourinary system in women and men. Less commonly recorded is genitourinary (torsion) trichomoniasis, the causative agent of which is intestinal Trichomonas. Also quite rare are intestinal and horny trichomoniasis, which are diagnosed in isolated cases
