Psychosis Senile Functional

Psychosis of the senile functional type is a mental disorder associated with disruption of brain function due to age-related changes. It is characterized by the development of delusions and hallucinations. The main cause of the disease is aging and changes in the functioning of the nervous system.

Symptoms of psychosis of a senile-functional nature are the appearance of auditory and visual hallucinations, delusional syndromes, and mental disorders. It is important to note that hallucinations have various manifestations, for example, sounds or telepathic contacts. Patients may believe that they are being attacked or persecuted and require protection from imaginary enemies. Delusions can be related to a variety of topics, including religious or political ideas. Often patients are characterized as a person who behaves inappropriately and aggressively.

Treatment of psychosis of the senile functional type includes various methods, but the main one is therapy with psychotropic drugs. Antipsychotic drugs and corticosteroids are prescribed as medications. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) may also be used.
