Root pulpitis (r. radicalis) is an inflammation of the dental pulp localized in the area of the root canals.
Reasons for development:
- deep caries reaching the pulp
- tooth trauma (bruise, fracture)
- chemical and thermal burns
- impact of filling materials
Symptoms:
- prolonged aching pain, aggravated by temperature stimuli
- pain when percussing the tooth
- swelling and hyperemia of the gums in the area of the root apex
Diagnosis is based on the clinical picture, X-ray data, and electroodontodiagnosis.
Treatment consists of removing the infected pulp and performing endodontic treatment - expansion and obturation of the root canals. If conservative treatment is ineffective, tooth extraction is performed.
