Radon (Radon)

Radon is a radioactive gas formed during the natural decay of radium. The chemical element radon belongs to the group of inert gases and has properties that make it dangerous to human health.

This gas is of atmospheric origin and can penetrate into residential premises through cracks in the ground and walls of buildings. At the same time, radon can accumulate in enclosed spaces, such as apartments, houses, offices and other buildings, reaching concentrations exceeding permissible standards.

High concentrations of radon can lead to lung cancer because the gas can emit alpha and gamma particles that enter the human body and cause DNA damage to cells.

However, radon also has medical uses. Sealed in hermetically sealed capsules called radon capsules or radioactive sources, it is used in radiotherapy to treat certain types of cancer, such as prostate cancer.

In Russia, measures to control radon concentrations in residential premises are regulated by regulatory documents. Thus, in accordance with sanitary rules and regulations SanPiN 2.6.1.2523-09, the maximum permissible value of radon concentration in the air of residential and public buildings should not exceed 200 Bq/m³.

In order to prevent negative consequences for human health, it is necessary to carry out regular measurements of radon concentrations in indoor air, especially in high-risk areas. To do this, you can use special radon detectors, which allow you to accurately measure the concentration of radon in the air and take the necessary measures to reduce the risk.

Thus, radon is one of the most dangerous radioactive elements that can lead to negative consequences for human health. However, with the right controls and precautions, risks can be minimized and the environment can be kept safe.

Radon is a radioactive gas that is formed during the decay of the radioactive element radium. Radon is used in medicine to treat cancer because it has the ability to kill cancer cells.

Radon is sealed into small airtight capsules called radon capsules. Radon capsules are used in radiotherapy.

Radon can emit alpha particles and gamma rays. These particles can damage healthy cells in the body. Therefore, it is important to use radon capsules only to treat certain types of cancer.

It is important to note that radon is a gas hazardous to health. It can cause serious health problems such as lung cancer. Therefore, precautions must be taken when using radon capsules and radiotherapy in general.
