Reiter's Disease

Reiter's disease is an inflammatory joint disease that can lead to disability and loss of quality of life. Named after the German physician Joseph Reuther, who in 1878 first described complaints of joint pain, fever and inflammation of the eyes in a patient with syphilis. In addition to joint manifestations, the disease may also cause lesions of the skin and genitourinary system. The main cause of Reiter's disease is considered to be an infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomaticus.
