Recormon

Recormon: Hematopoiesis stimulator for the treatment of anemia

Recormon, also known as epoetin beta or recombinant human erythropoietin, is a pharmaceutical drug used medically to treat various forms of anemia. It belongs to the group of hematopoiesis stimulants, that is, substances that promote blood formation.

Recormon is produced by several companies, including Boehringer Mannheim (Germany and Austria) and Hoffmann-La Roche (Switzerland, Germany, Ltd) together with Roche Diagnostics GmbH (Germany). This guarantees high quality and compliance with production standards.

Recormon is available in several dosage forms, including powder for the preparation of an injection solution. Forms such as powder for injection 1000IU, 2000IU and 5000IU, as well as lyophilized powder for injection 1000IU, are widely available for medical use.

The main active ingredient in Recormon is epoetin beta. This biologically active analogue of erythropoietin, which is naturally produced in the kidneys, stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body. Recormon is used to treat anemia of various origins, such as anemia in chronic renal failure, anemia in premature newborns and anemia associated with chemotherapy in the treatment of malignant neoplasms. It can also be used to increase the volume of blood available for autotransfusion.

Despite its effectiveness, Recormon has some contraindications. It is undesirable to use the drug in case of hypersensitivity to its components, refractory arterial hypertension, unstable angina, as well as a history of myocardial infarction, stroke or thromboembolism. Recormon is also not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Some side effects may occur when using Recormon. At the beginning of treatment, some patients may experience flu-like symptoms. It is possible to increase blood pressure and develop a hypertensive crisis with symptoms of encephalopathy, such as headaches, vague consciousness and sensory-motor disturbances. Other side effects may include allergic reactions, thrombosis, seizures, joint and muscle pain.

When using Recormon, you must strictly follow your doctor's instructions and follow dosage recommendations. The drug is usually administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. The dosage depends on the specific case, the patient's condition and other factors.
