Rolandic rhythm - see Mu rhythm. It is a musical term used to describe a rhythm that is characterized by a regular alternation of short and long beats (mostly double beats) that create a repeating melody. This rhythm is one of the most prominent features of Ireland's national musical heritage and forms the basis of many traditional Irish folk melodies. Examples of works that use Rolandic rhythm as one of the main elements are some Irish folk dances, traditional rituals, Highland songs and music, and Leichthari folk music. Ronandic rhythm is also found in dance music and some jazz improvisations.
