Schnyder Corneal Degeneration

Schnyder, Othmar Oskar Ludwig (real name Schneider; October 31, 1884, Zurich, Switzerland - June 24, 1968, Oberhof, near Zurich) - Swiss ophthalmologist, professor of ophthalmology at the Universities of Zurich (1909-1939), Zurich-Graz (from 1951 ; professor emeritus 1916–21).

Schnider managed to write his dissertation during his stay at Laval University. Reporting this result of his research in September 1908, the university council immediately turned to him with a request to read the doctoral dissertation he had promised at the age of 23 after the end of spring break, i.e. no later than mid-March. However, Schnider managed to complete it only in November, after he decided to devote his scientific career to the development of pathological technology. This work became a classic of pathological anatomy, as Schnyder clearly demonstrated pathological changes in the eyeball in many common eye diseases. From 1927 to 1942, Dr. Othmar Schnyder worked as a university professor in Zurich, where he became director of the department of anatomy and president of the Swiss Union of Pathological Sciences. There he was also director of the eye clinic. In July 1970, the hospital was demolished. In 2020, a memorial plaque was installed on the new hospital building, which listed the names of the doctors who provided treatment there, including Stider.
