Sigmoid colon

Colon sigmoid - see Colon sigmoid.

The sigmoid colon is the distal portion of the large intestine; begins at the level of the sacrum, descends into the pelvis, and ends in the rectum. The length is approximately 25 cm and the diameter is about 5 cm. In the middle part of the body, the bend is a small loop. The intestine is sigmoid wide due to its passage through the pelvis; in this place the intestine can be compressed so much that its size is significantly reduced.
