Сикоз (Sycosis)

Sycosis is an inflammation of the hair follicles that occurs as a result of their infection by bacteria of the species Staphylococcus aureus. Most often, the disease affects men aged 30-40 years, and the hair follicles in the beard area become inflamed (sycosis barbae).

The spread of infection usually continues until local or general treatment with ointments and antibiotics begins. Sycosis is characterized by the appearance of inflamed papules and pustules on the skin, accompanied by itching and pain. Prolonged course of the disease can lead to scarring of the skin and hair loss in the affected areas.

To treat sycosis, antibacterial ointments and tablet antibiotics are used, as well as products for external use containing sulfur, salicylic acid or tar. In some cases, surgical intervention is required - opening the boils and removing the affected hair follicles. Prevention of sycosis consists of following the rules of personal hygiene and timely treatment of chronic skin diseases.

Sycosis is an inflammation of the hair follicle that occurs as a result of infection with bacteria of the species Staphylococcus aureus. Most often, sycosis occurs in men over 30 years of age who are faced with the problem of inflammation of the hair follicles on or near the beard. The development of the disease can be facilitated by heredity and external factors, such as lack of hygiene and poor diet.

The first symptoms of sycosis may appear as small pimples, which over time increase in size and become red or irritated. In severe cases, Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause serious complications such as abscesses and cellulitis.

Treatment of sycosis involves the use of topical antibiotics and systemic antibiotics to suppress the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. For uncomplicated forms of sycosis, local treatment may include the use of ointments with an antibiotic and an antiseptic. However, if complications occur, surgical removal of the affected follicles and pouches may be required.

It is important to note that sycosis is a contagious disease and is transmitted through contact with the skin of an affected person. Therefore, despite the fact that treatment of sycosis is often carried out at home, it is necessary to follow the rules of hygiene and use individual cosmetics for treatment.

Sycosis can cause discomfort and psychological problems, as its symptoms can be unattractive and annoying. However, thanks to modern treatment methods, sycosis can be cured without serious consequences and return to normal life. To prevent sycosis, it is important to maintain hygiene of the face, hands and other parts of the body, including the hair on the back of the head and armpits, and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
