System Properdine

The properdin system is a system consisting of properdin, complement, magnesium and calcium ions contained in blood serum, which has a bactericidal effect, especially against gram-negative bacteria, and a virus-neutralizing effect. This is one of the mechanisms of the body's natural immunity.

Properdin activates the complement system via an alternative pathway, triggering a cascade of reactions leading to the lysis of cell membranes of foreign microorganisms. Magnesium and calcium ions are also involved in the activation of system components. Thus, the properdin system complements other humoral mechanisms of the body's defense against infections.
