Spirillae are a family of positive-sense viruses—DNA viruses that cause diseases of plants, insects, and mites. The term "spirilla" implies a twisted form of the genome - such as double turns.
Most spirilla are granular particles with a pico- or nanometric size of 20-30 nm, which behave like ribozymes in an infected cell.
