Strychnine: a neurotoxin with convulsive effects

Strychnine is a neurotoxin that is known to have selective seizure effects. This poison has a bitter taste and causes fearfulness, restlessness, constriction of the neck, trismus, tetanic convulsions, palpitations, difficulty breathing and cyanosis. The lethal dose of strychnine is only 15-20 mg, which makes it one of the most dangerous poisons.

Strychnine was discovered in 1818 and has since found widespread use as a killing poison. But despite its dangers, strychnine is also used medicinally as a central nervous system stimulant and as a treatment for diseases such as asthma, bronchitis and dysentery.

Treatment for strychnine poisoning includes a number of measures. First of all, you need to rinse your stomach and take
