Spina ventosa - lat. Anasardina.
Dorsal fins with weak spines in the first row, in which sometimes the upper central spines are absent. The posterior dorsal fin is spinous, its apexes touch the anal fin (end of the spines), and one of its apexes is shifted back in some species. The pelvic fins reach the anus. Pectoral fins with non-retractable rays. The anal fin is bilobed. The caudal fin is notched, the caudal rays are long, usually exceeding the length of the fish’s body, and there are more ventral rays than caudal rays. There are eight gill slits.
