Pubofemoral ligament

The pubofemoral ligament is a set of connective tissue fibers connecting the pubic and ischial bones, as well as the superolateral part of the thigh surface. It is located along the external fibular surface of the thigh outside the external epicondyle of the femur and has the shape of an elongated horizontal ligament.

The pubofemoral ligaments are one of the most firmly anchoring elements of the hip joint to the pubis and ischiofemoral bones. Their strength is due to the connection of the three sacral segments of the hip and obturator bones with the following elements: *        two muscles (pubis and rectus); *        one bone (base of the seat); *       one fascia (superficial).
